I AM BECAUSE WE ARE

I AM BECAUSE WE ARE

I-AM 101 is about more than a first class in Imaging Animation and Media. The name refers to a project to spark the imagination and creativity of young people in Africa through imaging, animation and communication media but it also indicates a collective journey, one on which the reader is invited to join us. It is a journey to discover and express our collective and diverse identities as Africans and part of the African Family. A journey to find and express who I AM and who WE ARE through art.

Ubuntu pronounced [ùbúntú], is a traditional African concept. The word ubuntu comes from the Zulu and Xhola languages, and can be roughly translated as “humanity towards others”. It is also often translated as “I Am Because We Are”
